Such a creative, beautiful shot featuring a beautiful Miss California candidate! This image pops against the background and almost looks 3D. Amazing! Hooray & good luck Clare Ryan!

Clare Ryan for Miss California 2013 – Orange County headshots

When I had the opportunity to create some headshots for Clare Ryan’s Miss California campaign I was completely thrilled.  I absolutely love headshots, Senior Portraits, and anything where I get to focus on an individual.  I love to capture a person’s style and personality.  Something that is a true unique expression of who they are.  My approach was similar to a Senior Portrait session in that I wanted to create something tailored to her, but also with a focus on getting some great images for her fan page, business cards, and other campaign needs.  She is gorgeous and talented, and so very sweet.  No wonder she is already in the top 200!

As we discussed the look she wanted for her session, she said she wanted something urban with a bit of an edge.  We met at Laguna Beach, but it has been clouds, fog, and more clouds around here for weeks!  I actually like to shoot with a few clouds, but it wasn’t just overcast.  It was dark!  We made the decision to head inland in hopes of a bit more sun.  It was better, but still quite overcast, so we set up in an awesome location in Mission Viejo with tons of white walls that not only went perfectly with her wardrobe, they also acted as natural reflectors and gave some nice direction to the light.  I am so glad we settled on that location!  I am loving what we came up with!

Enjoy your preview Clare, and best wishes in your journey!

Inspiration

Things have been quiet around here!  Let me be clear that when I say “here” I mean my blog and facebook page.  Not so much on the homefront.  I’m pretty sure every ailment from A to Z has made its way through my family.  I have been snuggling my babies.  (And doing massive amounts of laundry)  We have had birthdays, holidays, rainy days, happy days and sad days.  Some days I have felt completely uninspired, and others I have looked longingly at my camera as I washed blanket after blanket.  Life hasn’t been deviod of photography, though.  I have been reading books on posing, on how to avoid neck creases, how to create a beautiful jawline.    I have stared at gorgeous lifestyle sessions that have nothing to do with neck wrinkles and jawlines.  I have decided I want to create a fusion of the two.  I have been learning how to use lightroom.  I have watched how the light falls on my children’s faces as they read stories together, and have been marveling at the beautiful in the mundane.

I was running errands last week, and I drove past a field of daisies with perfect light in the most unusual of places.  I was inspired.  I love reading, and editing, and learning on every level, but shooting is where you put it into practice, and it is what makes my heart sing.  The moment my family was healthy we loaded up in the car and headed out there.

I haven’t offered mini-sessions for a long time, but I am feeling inspired, and the location is just too good to pass up!  So starting NOW through the end of April (or when all of the flowers are gone – whichever comes first) I will be offering Spring Daisy Mini-Sessions!  Stay tuned for more details!
